Once a year in mid-winter, employees working in the distribution warehouses of Amazon.com Inc. are sent an offer called “pay to quit.” Employees who take the offer get paid based on their years of service to the company — $2,000 for the first year and increasing by $1,000 each additional year until reaching a cap of $5,000.
