Texas was one of eight states where real personal income declined from 2015 to 2016, according to newly released federal data. But real income grew in Austin while other parts of the state struggled with the oil and gas downturn. Estimates released Thursday by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis show real personal income grew nationwide on average by 1.1 percent in 2016 after a 4.7 percent increase in 2015.
